Ritual Para No Olvidarte

2020–Until I Die

en
Ritual Para No Olvidarte is an ongoing, lifelong collection of photograms that immortalizes the connection between my loved ones and me. I began this project during the pandemic in 2020. While I had thought about the immediacy of death before, this global outbreak made me rethink how truly temporary our lives are. Being that most of my family and friends are scattered around the globe, I set myself on a life-time mission with the purpose to complete this series.

This is a project that is at times photographic. And sometimes, it crosses into the plastic art territory due its performative nature. Since the beginning, the process of making the impressions began to take the shape of a ritual. A ritual in which the participants and I reflect over our shared memories, making it all more intimate. As part of telling our stories, I pair each photogram with either a potrait, an archive image, or an object that represents the other person.

Currently, I am located in Belgium, where I am continuing in the expansion of this series. I have always envisioned to keep this project ongoing as I want to include the new connections I develop through the years. And so that by the end of my life, I want to have a chamber full of pieces that remain as proofs of existence. Something that shows that we were here.
